It used to be that those who wanted to boost their performance at work only had a few options – all of them replete with significant drawbacks.
You could try coffee. We’ve all been there, going from one cup of coffee a day to two to three to four, even five or six… but where does it end? Usually, with a caffeine dependency and some jitters. Not good.
And prescription stimulants are even worse. It should go without saying, but taking said prescriptions solely to think faster is not a good idea.
On the other hand, it’s easy to see why stimulating substances are appealing. Amidst the wear and tear of daily living there’s a lot of tiredness to overcome! It’s only natural to want to move ahead in life and at work. It’s only healthy to be motivated and make higher productivity a goal. It’s a good thing to be career-minded and driven to succeed.
On some level, all of us know this. There’s a reason the self-help genre is so popular… there’s a reason biohacks, life hacks, brain hacks, etc. are so sought after.
It’s because it’s only natural to want to move past mental limitations and truly shine.
But what if the best way to shine in life and at work wasn’t based on your motivation? What if it wasn’t something you could just drum up at will? Could it be that your career performance… depends on something more biochemical, something going on in your brain?
That’s what the research says. And while there’s still much to learn, thousands of people are saying that brain-boosting CBD helps them do more than just get by at work. Here’s what you need to know.
CBD In The Workplace
You’re probably already familiar with some of CBD‘s more basic qualities. The hemp-derived compound may be anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, anti-stress, anti-epileptic… the list goes on. (Those who want a refresher can read more here!)
But there’s much more. On the flipside of CBD‘s stress-relieving qualities is something even more exciting: a boost of resilience. If you’re lacking motivation, a daily dose of CBD could be the perfect thing for you. If you find yourself needing more energy en route to completing a difficult project, it might just be that your endocannabinoid system needs a little boost.
CBD doesn’t usually energize in the same way that coffee and tea do, though. While coffee’s caffeine content blocks the normal function of adenosine receptors, in the process blocking feelings of tiredness, CBD may increase the function of receptors that help us stay happy, healthy, and in balance. It tends to increase motivation subtly – from the inside out. For many people these subtle changes amplify over time to become nothing short of life changing.
But that’s not to say you can’t still have coffee. CBD and coffee actually go very well together! It’s just that you might find yourself not needing caffeine like you used to.
The Neuroplastic Advantage
Another way CBD might help the driven professional? This one is the most brain-based of all: by promoting something called neuroplasticity.
The science here gets complex fast, but suffice to say that many CBD users feel that it unlocks their creativity and inspiration. Right-brained businesses like Artsy are supporting the idea, reporting what enthusiasts like Amy Duncan experienced when first taking CBD: “one idea was now leading to another not-so-obviously related idea on a flurry of imaginative, original thought.”
The verdict is still out on exactly how this works… among other things, CBD may (may!) increase blood flow to areas of the brain associated with creative expression. Cannabis expert Dr. Peter Grinspoon has a more indirect theory. According to him, increased creativity could be a downstream effect of CBD-induced increased sleep time.
And consistent CBD use may cause other less-than-tangible benefits. Among them is more hope – another thing which makes the workday worth winning and new pathways worth taking. You may just have to try CBD for yourself to see what we mean.
A final hurdle faces those who take CBD at work. Usually it’s a minor one – but it still deserves mention.
That hurdle is drug testing. In theory even full spectrum hemp products don’t contain nearly enough THC to trigger a positive drug test… in practice, however, things are different. The point-of-care (immunoassay) tests that most employers use are actually prone to several flaws. For one, they can confuse CBD for THC! While this is rare, it does happen – if it happens to you, insist on confirmation testing, which will always give an accurate result.
At ProHealth CBD Store, we think the future is bright. CBD oil is only getting more popular, more accepted, and more respected. Just as many employers have adopted preventative health programs for their employees in recent years, it may only be a matter of time until CBD‘s utility catches on.
Also keep in mind that some employers are more forward-looking than others. Dr. James Taylor ( CEO of Integrated Hemp Solutions and several other companies) is a believer: he encourages his employees to take CBD. Taylor has even said CBD should be put in public drinking water.
And why not? CBD is completely safe and often completely effective. We can only hope that this sort of thinking will become the norm in the future… until then, the choice of how to apply CBD‘s benefits to your career is up to you.
