Plan to catch stoned drivers dangers punishing harmless folks, critics say


As Massachusetts opens extra pot shops, Governor Charlie Baker needs to fight stoned driving by growing the facility and variety of police educated to detect whether or not somebody is excessive and a hazard behind the wheel.

However protection attorneys and civil liberties advocates say the analysis system that Baker is selling, which depends on a sequence of observations by specifically educated officers, is unscientific, deeply flawed, and will punish harmless folks.

The “drug recognition professional’’ program, or DRE, has been rejected in quite a few instances by Massachusetts judges who dominated it lacks scientific validation. Research have discovered that this system’s claims of accuracy are overstated, and that it’s biased and susceptible to false alarms.
